Uninstall McAfee AV

Machine: Dell Dimension 4550, P4 2.53Ghz w/533MHz front side bus/ 512K L2
Cache, 256MB DDR SDRAM at 333Mhz, 30GB Ultra ATA/100 Hard Drive.

My grandson has McAfee AV installed on this nearly new Dell. I want to
uninstall it and get a different AV program (most likely eTrust by CA). I
tried to use Add/Remove Programs and got the message: In order to uninstall
McAfee.com Security Center, you need to uninstall all McAfee.com Services
first." Went to Search looking for anything McAfee related. Search showed
8 files found, but only lists 7 after substantial period of time (2 or 3
minutes). All are small files and include only shortcuts or text docs
(direct ads). No com or exe files are listed.

How do I get rid of McAfee?

Sure appreciate your help!!!

Go into control panel>admin tools>services and disable the services that
pertain to mcafee and then try uninstalling.

I had a problem removing McAfee too. I talked with their
tech support and had to remove all registry entries that
were related to McAfee [this was with my Win98 OS]. It
was a tedious process as there about twenty or more but
it worked. I've never had to mess with the registry on my
XP yet. If you know how to search the registry for all
files associated with McAfee and remove them. They do
suggest making a backup copy of the registry before
starting. Hope this helps.

Mike, thank you.

Hope someone comes up with an easier way; tedious isn't the word I would
use!!!

Appreciate your input.
