Unidentified O/S on my PC

Hello i have read alot of discussions but not this one problem i have or
should i say i have 2 problems first my system crashed fatal blue screen my
os is (was xp pro) then i turned around and reinstalled xp home edition now i
get this message which o/s do you want to start the xp home or the
unidentified o/s i want to see if i can get back my files and folders from xp
pro before i install a new xp pro i am using xp home for now but dont want it
so is there a way i can get my files and folders back from the crashed xp
pro thanks for anyones help

it sounds like you accidentally did a "dual boot" installation.
When you installed XP home it saw that you had XP Pro installed and created
a dual boot.
So now you have 2 operating systems installed...home and Pro.
We have no way of knowing where you installed home to...same Partition/HD as
Pro....different partition/HD than pro??
We have no way of knowing the directory of the Pro installation so here is a
general guide.

By Repairing your Pro Installation you should now be able to boot up into XP
Pro....your files and folders should be intact.But you will need to redo all
updates.
Then find the Home installation and delete the directory....or if on a
seperate partition/HD format the partition/HD.This will destroy anything on
that partition so if you have personal files there move them first.
Then still in Pro click start/run and type in msconfig.........click the
Boot.ini tab and remove the line that points to your XP Home Installation.
reboot and you should be going straight into XP Pro........

as a PS...sometimes it is just easier to start from scratch.Save all you
work,find all your driver disks...program disk.Boot from the XP Pro CD and
do a new installation formatting the HD in the process..then install the
MOBO drivers...Net Drivers...Video/Audio Drivers...AntiVirus........then
update from the net.

Sounds like you have created a dual boot system with XP-Home and XP-Pro.
With hard drive being as cheap as they are these days you could pull
this dive out install a new one with a new OS and then after you get
this all working you could install the drive that you want the data off
of as a slave drive move the data over to your new drive. At this point
you could take the old drive out or leave it in and format and yous it
as a backup of you data.
