Unexplained Restart...

Microsoft Windows XP Professional
5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600
Pentium IV 2.6GHz
x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 4 GenuineIntel ~2656 Mhz
1,024.00 MB DDRRAM

No errors or issue for over a year.

My workstation just restarted about 15 minutes ago with no warning...just
like someone hit the reset button. It does, however, appear to have created a
dump file.

How do I go about analyzing this dump file in order to figure out what the
problem was...or is there a place I can submit the file and someone can check
it for me?

Thanx.

Just a thought - could it have been an electrical power outage for a split
second?

Check the system log in event viewer to see if anything was recorded there
relating to the error. By default XP systems are configured to
automatically restart on system error, as well as write an event to the
system log and generate a dump file.

For info on analyzing the file (not for the faint of heart) see
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315263.

Nope...not a power issue as there have been no power issues as of late...not
to mention the fact that the workstation is on an UPS.

Thanx.

The event log only contains an entry for the actual dump, not for what caused
it...a 1001 savedump...

----------
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x1000000a
(0x96629074, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x804dbc8e). A dump was saved in:
C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini041607-02.dmp.

Forget that dump file for the moment. "Windows XP restarts unexpectedly
or restarts when you shut down the computer"
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;320299

If that problem persists although you've disabled the automatic
reastart, it was caused by a hardware problem (RAM, Power Supply,
Overheating etc.).
