Unexplained crashes...seem arbitrary

Got a new mother board...ASUS A7v8x-mx running xp home sp1 and an
athlon 2200+xp processor with 512 DDR Ram. System crashes pretty
often. Did a clean install of the OS...several times...and had an
early indication of primary ide controller errors using Event
Viewer... these problems seemed to go away after using a different
install process. Originally thought the CD drive was going bad...may
still be true but did an inplace reload of XP from a copied I386
subdirectory in the C:\ root directory to avoid data transfer
problems. Seemed to work...no errors were picked up by the Event
Viewer after the clean install.

However, IE6 also continued to crash as did Windows Explorer while I
was using them. Mostly, however, the system crashes while I am moving
files across the network. I suspected a temperature problem, but the
indications are that everything is running cool. It would seem to be a
problem in network controller....just guessing.

Used the advice from this group to disable reboot and let the blue
screen come up. Here's what I get:

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

and

STOP: 0X000000D1 (0X081C2437, 0X0000001C, 0X00000000, 0X081C2437)

These don't mean a thing to me but the suggestion was to post the blue
screen diagnostics to the group to see if anyone can decode the
problem.

Your collective help would be greatly appreciated. MOBO may be bad or
some drivers may be conflicting...don't know yet.

Thanx for you help resolving this problem........before I go
NUTS!!!!!!.

Thanks for the feedback. Will look into it...but I took the board back
and got a better one, so will need to figure out how to configure it.
I think the other MB had controller problems. New board is a gamer
board and I don't have a clue how to configure it yet.

'Thanks, again.

Good luck Henry. I had a new board with a faulty RAM slot once. Experienced
many unexplained lockups until the problem was uncovered. Enjoy your new
board. Have fun figuring it out and using it.

The new board is awesome!!!! Went to user group, got some insights,
and set it up. Stable--fast---fun!!!! I am seeing a lot of quality
deterioration in lower end stuff, not just functionality reduction.
Bad trend.
Thanxs for your advice. Got to go get some leftover turkey!!!!
