Unexplained Closing

I have had windows movie maker (for xp, which i have) for a very long time
and have made various videos with it with ease. However, recently I have
recorded audio with my digital camera and uploaded it to my computer on a
compatible format for movie maker. When i open a movie maker file and upload
the audio file it works perfectly fine as with any ordinary music file but
when I put it onto the timeline an 'error report' comes up automatically
closing the program.

I sent the audio file to my friend who has the same version of movie maker
as me but wen he put the file onto the timeline it worked fine. I have tried
uploading updates but i alreayd have the updated version and the program
still closes. I can't explain it, please help.

So the file works on another pc, we can assume it is not corrupt.
It is a supported file type and shouldn't cause problems.

You say you have all the latest updates, is this for your audio card,
graphics card, directx.

If you are running XP with SP2, then you should have MM version 2.1. Go to
the compatibility tab and turn off the filters and try again. If that works,
then turn them back on one by one to see which one was causing the problem.
