Unexplainable Internet Explorer Browser Closing

D

David

For some reason, my internet explorer closes down when I
enter certain sites. It only occurs on certain sites and
not on others... normally it runs fine. However, I can
never enter those sites because it never works on them.
I have tried to uninstall IE6, SP1 and using IE5, but that
didn't work. I then reinstalled IE6, SP1 but it wasn't
fixed. I also tried repairing the install on IE6 but no
luck.
I am running Windows 2000 5.00.2195 Service Pack 4. IE
version is 6.0.2800.1106. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

You might be reaching sites which have content which a
firewall of your's is blocking and your firewall rule
might be that the error causes it to turn off the
application in question. Also do you have error reporting
available with that version of Windows? Myself I skipped
from Win98 to XP so I wouldn't know about 2000.

Eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:

**Post your HijackThis log to

Alternative download pages for Ad-Aware, Spybot, HijackThis and CWShredder
may be found on this page:

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.

IE 6.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the malware is.

I've had the same problem as David and carried out the spyware suggestions
and the SFC.
Q. Does the SFC finish it's check and if there are no problem just goes off
or should there be results?
Spybot found 406 problems and It corrected all but a few. I also bypassed
the ones that were not ticked as they all seemed to concern the registry.
I still have the problem with the browser.
