unexpected moving text boxes

Why do my text boxes, on occasion, move locations during presentation. Is
there a way to lock the position so they won't move. These are my slide
headings and are not animated. I consider myself an expert at powerpoint and
cannot isolate the problem. Also sometimes the text will be partially covered
up or text is missing during presentation view. Please help.

Give us a bit more info. Do they physically move when you're presenting, or
do you mean something more like, they're in one place when you save the
file, and then when you open the file and do a presentation, they've moved
to a different place?

Does this happen on the same computer you created the file on, or does it
happen when you move the file to a different computer? (thinking missing
font here)

If the text is partially covered up, what is it covered with? If it's
missing, is all the text missing, or just part of it? Is it random? (If
random, try changing hardware acceleration -- turn it down, actually.
http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00129.htm for instrux. Maybe update video drivers.)

Remember, we can't see what's happening there, so you have to help us with
details....

thanks Echo S for assisting. The problem happens on the same computer the
file was created. So it's not a missing font issue, although I use a font
that I copied to this computer. Usually the presentation is exactly the way
I want it. I'll save document and shut down for the day. Then when I open
the presentation and flip through in normal view some of the text boxes near
the top will have moved up or down. Other text boxes on the page are in the
same location. If I copy and paste the slide, the new slide with have the
text box in the correct location. The has worked every time. Out of the 100
slides it only happens to one or two and is complete randon to which on. The
white that covers up the text is not in the normal view. The text is
animated to do a fade in. When it fades in the only the left half of the
text appears. It's really weird.

If I don't catch this before I present, then during the presentation it will
obviously be in a different location than I created.

Sorry I missed your reply earlier, so I'm way late replying. Better late
than never, though. :)

I think you are seeing the results of a bug in PPT 2002/2003. It has to do
with the wrong slide master (the first one in the list of masters) being
applied/reapplied to slides on save. Or something like that.

Anyway, Microsoft's suggestion to overcome this is to re-order your slides
in the list of slide masters. I don't like this workaround, because then you
run the risk of the wrong master being applied to other slides in the
presentation. What I prefer to do is copy the textbox (the placeholder) and
paste it on the slide. Then delete the original. The copy is a regular
textbox, not a placeholder, and so it's no longer tied to the slide master,
and so the placement/text size should no longer change.

As for the white thing, I think that is a display issue. I would see if
changing hardware acceleration (usually down) helps. How to set graphics
hardware acceleration back http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00129.htm for instrux.
