Unexpected Error: Quitting

Have been using Vista 32 bit for some time and all has been fine. Suddenly,
when I boot and sign-in a brief message pops up stating: Unexpected Error:
Quitting. It does not give any clue what the error is or what is causing
the problem. I have to click on the red X to delete it and then I can go on
and use the pc with no other problems. In my research Microsoft talks about
getting this error when trying to run VB programs, but that is not the case
here. I would really like to do away with this message, so any suggestions
would be helpful.
Thanks,
Frank
