Undeleted Files During Uninstall with XP

Andy

I had Adobe Reader 5.0 on my XP Pro system. I installed
Adobe Reader 6.0 and then later uninstalled Adobe Reader
5.0 because I didn't think it was necessary to have both
programs on my system.

When the download/install for 6.0 finished, I noticed a
new icon for Adobe Reader 6.0 on my desktop. I was
curious and double-clicked on the icon. At that point I
received a message box which said, "Adobe PDF documents
on the Web can be viewed inside Netscape and Internet
Explorer. However, this feature is currently disabled and
PDF documents on the Web will open in a separate window.
Would you like to disable this feature so that you can
view PDF documents in Netscape and Internet Explorer?"

I selected YES. Afterwards, when I tried to open PDF
documents on the Internet to see if 6.0 worked, the PDF
documents wouldn't open. I kept getting a blank screen
with a little box at the top with multiple colors in it.
PDF files that had opened fine with 5.0 no longer opened.

Was this situation caused by selecting YES on the message
box? Was this situation caused by uninstalling 5.0 after
having installed 6.0? I have been told the following:

1. Uninstalling 5.0 after having installed 6.0 broke the
6.0 and is the root of my problem.

2. I should uninstall all Adobe Readers at this point and
start over.

Question: I have now uninstalled all Adobe Reader
programs from my computer. Should I select 5.0 or 6.0
when I do a reinstall? The reason I ask is that I have
heard a lot of negative comments regarding 6.0. Most
people are telling me that 6.0 is problematic and that I
should stay with 5.0. Can anyone out there help me with
this situation. I appreciate your expertise.
Thanks

Andy

Hi Andy,

Adobe Acrobat 6.0 has caused issues for a number of people. Open it from the
start menu, click edit/preferences and undo the option to open in web pages.
Reboot, then reenable that option (should you wish to use it).

If you are wanting PDF documents to open inside of
internet explorer try opening Reader 6 first and then
open the internet document. This issue at our site is
caused by have any version of Adobe suite installed
allong with the reader. I don't know if this is the same
issue with your PC or not but you can give it a try.
