Unattended Installations with MassStorageDrivers for both OEM and Standard Retail

Am I understanding it correctly that if I need to include a single
OEM storage driver, that I will now have to list EVERY other storage
driver I use in my [MassStorageDrivers] section of unattend.txt?

I have a network installation point to build Windows XP systems
unattended. OEMPnPPath has gotting me through most of my driver woes.
However, now I've got Dell Precision 370's with a funky SATA
controller. I went through the process of adding the
[MassStorageDrivers] information, and my 370's could install fine.
However, then I tried a laptop and received the 0x0000007B stop error.
It seems that the ONLY storage driver it would look for was the SATA
controller.

After commenting out the [MassStorageDrivers] and [OEMBootFiles]
sections of my unattend.txt file, and removing the \$oem$\TextMode
folder, the laptop built fine.

So how do I get it so I can use the same process on the 370's and the
rest of the workstations?

Thanks much!

Although I don't have the solution for you - yet - can you send me the
MASSSTORAGE sections you have (via email) as I am looking at new precision
workstations same as you. heh

And if I figure out anything extra - I will send it back to you.

Hi,

It's not usually an issue on Dells with Intel chipsets, because they
have IDE emulation of SATA drives in the BIOS. It's certainly an issue
on Dell servers with SCSI RAID though.

I've only ever used Optiplex, maybe the Dimensions don't have BIOS
emulation (?), but I find that strange if true...

With Win2000, you can certainly add an additional single mass storage
device without trashing other devices. I've never run XP so I'm sure how
that one works, but I was under the impression it was the same at
TextMode setup stage.

Which is best anyway, Dimension or Optiplex?
