Check your security settings. What program and version are you using,
IE a news reader?

This is a newsgroup dedicated to questions about Access, the database
program in Office Professional. It appears your question may not be related
to these subjects. The Microsoft help system is not all that clear and may
have misdirected you here.

It is best to ask your questions in a newsgroup dedicated to the
subject of your question. You should find people better able to address
your problem there.
http://tc2.atspace.com/0013-HowToSearch.htm#FindNewsgroup may help.

Note: It is always best to indicate the name and version of any
program(s) you may be using when asking a question and also indicate the
operating system (like Windows XP or 98) when you ask a question.

I use the web interface only at work where I am unable to use a newsreader.
Using an NNTP newsreader is significantly faster and easier than any web
interface that I've found. Try using Outlook Express which is part of
Internet Explorer and Windows. To configure a newsgroup, go to Tools ...
Accounts ... Add and add a news account when it asks for a server, use:

news.microsoft.com

I'd use a munged email address to avoid spam. You can also use other
newsreaders, but you'll need to pay for some of them.

It's designed to work with Internet Explorer 6 and newer. If you have an older
version of IE, you should download a newer version. Also, security settings may
be interfering, specifically pop-up blocking. Experiment with your settings,
such as not blocking popups from this Web site and unblocking cookies from this
Web site.

Not an Access issue.

It's a function of your newsreader *account* settings.

What in the world are you talking about?

I don't need IE in any version to read and post in this newsgroup.
All you need is a news reader (there are many very good free ones,
as opposed to junk like OE) and access to a news server (microsoft
makes its news server open to all).

Hi David,

While you and I know the benefits of using a newsreader, some folks get to
the newsgroups through a web interface, mostly google or the microsoft
communities websites. Pietro was having difficulty with the Microsoft one.
There could be many reasons, including firewalls, trusted zones,
permissions, etc.

I use OE, which may not be the best one, but I've been using it for many
years and am comfortable with its speed and ease of use. Two of the better
free ones are Thunderbird and Free Agent. I've tried them both, but keep
coming back to OE because I'm comfortable with it and it is on all my
computers.

Sorry, but I think it's important to forcefully remind people that
there are vastly better alternatives to the awful web interfaces.

That's why I make posts like these -- to jolt people into realizing
there's a much, much better way.

I'd only edit the word "remind" to "inform". Many, many folks have
only SEEN the web interfaces - either from the Microsoft Help screens,
or from Google; to a great many people "web screens" *ARE* the
Internet, and the very existance of an older but still very much alive
Usenet is a total revelation.
