Unable to use/open Windows Media Player

For an unknown reason everytime I go to use windows media player it says "An
internal application error has occured" and it won't let me into the player.
Does anyone know why it is doing this?
 
Corrupt files could be the reason. I would reinstall it afresh! It is
free anyway!

Thank you for the tip but when I tried to reinstall it the same error message
comes up. If anyone has any other suggestions I would appreciate the help.

You also might want to post to the media player newsgroup. Here is a
