Hello all!
I've got the weirdest of all problems: I can't upload!
I can send and read email. I can download just about everything. I can surf
the Net and visit any web page|site I want. So far I had only one problem:
Windows Update didn't work; whenever windows update scanned my computer, the
PC froze at 66%. I tried various things, including just about everything in
the well known windows update troubleshooting list, but to no avail. So I
chose to ignore it and continue my life, waiting for the next service pack.
Last day I decided to set up a web page in geocities. I uploaded the html
file all right, but when I tried to upload the images the PC froze. A bell
rung inside my head; "where have I seen that before?". No matter what or how
many times I tried, every time the computer froze.
Today I tried to send an email to a friend of mine, with a RAR attachment.
Can you spell froze? Because, as you guessed, the PC froze again! Let's try
uploading the file to my university's ftp server, and then email it from my
university account. Ftp connects, accepts bin and hash command, put file.rar
and, yes, the PC froze.
So... I haven't got the faintest idea where to start looking for a solution.
Obviously I suspect my modem and its drivers; its the cursed Motorola SM56
winmodem. Whoever thought of soft modems should be executed; unfortunately
that wouldn't solve my problem.
Any thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions? (Except of buying a new modem, which I'm
considering seriously)
