unable to uninstall device

To display hidden devices, non-Plug and Play devices, and devices not
attached to the computer (commonly known as "ghosted" or "phantom" devices)
Save the following two lines as a file then execute.

--------------------------setdev.bat---------------------
set DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1
start devmgmt.msc
---------------------------------------------------------

Then, View|Show Hidden Devices to remove or reconfigure these devices. Do
not edit the registry. (note: you may need to unbind services and or
protocols from the device before removing)

XP seeks drivers for all hardware so pull hardware 1st.
Then uninstall driver from CP or its location or just
leave it in case u want it later.

|Windows XP home with all the updates...
|In device manager I have 3 instances of the same network adapter which I am
|unable to uninstall. These are from an old wireless adapter and nothing I
|can do will delete them.
|I have tried to tried to disable it first and then uninstall it, ,
|physically install the adapter and then uninstall it, do it in safe mode
|however all attempts fail. I keep getting the message that the device maybe
|needed to boot up the computer. Well, the device is not even in the
|computer!
|
|There are a number of instances in the registry so shall I clean it from
|there, or is there a better way.
|I would appreciate any help with this one.
|

Any advise is my attempt to contribute more than I have received but I can only assure you that it works on my PC. GOOD LUCK.

I've seen that in XP too and have never been able to delete unused net
cards...
I even tried to delete the registry entries and they were un-deleteable

I'd say that if your system is working OK
to just forget about it

Thanks for the suggestions and sorry about the clock!
I can view the hidden devices however even though the card has been removed
from the computer it still shows. I suppose this is something I can live
with.

I think it may be a bug in XP...

It seems to only happen with net cards though

Fix your spell checker. You're posting "you're" when it should be
"your".

The apostrophe replaces the A in "You are" hence you're is correct and YOUR
statement is wrong. :)

Here's my butt-in. Charlie, you are incorrect. Uncle
Grumpy was correct when he stated you're is incorrect.
"Your" shows possession as in "your clock is not set
correctly." You are (You're) clock just doesn't seem
correct. Now, You are (You're) a clock is correct.

There are many posts on these newsgroups that use incorrect
grammar. Their and there and you're and your are probably
the two most common incorrect uses. As long as the post is
readable, I certainly can overlook improper spelling and
grammar usage but I do try to fix errors of content in posts
I see and expect people to fix any errors I may make..

Try booting to Safe Mode and remove it there. That's worked with
damaged sound cards in the past..
