reason I am now un-able to turn off the firewall... (not something I do alot
) but when I try to.. the option to turn it off is greyed out. YES I have
ADMIN access as I am the ONLY user on this computer... Any suggestions?

Two things can be happening on your computer now .

1) You have another software firewall which is disabling Windows Firewall .
Separate or in other product . The most famous products are : Norton/Symantec
, McAfee, Panda , Kaspersky , Zone Alarm , Kerio , Sygate , Outpost .......
If so , you don't have to worry

2) Your computer is infected with malicious software (malware=virus/spyware)
Since your firewall is grayed , it is most likely to be 2)
I recommend you visit my web-site and carefully and systematically perform
the "Check for and remove" instructions
http://pandaman.my.contact.bg

After that , you may perform a Repair install of Windows . More info how ,
in my site

I am sorry , I just posted and re-read your post . I am right , I see you
want to turn it OFF and you are unable ...?

What I posted was about turning it on , I have never seen a situation where
user can't *turn OFF* a firewall ...

Hi, Lauren.
Do you have Norton Antivirus or NIS installed on the system? If so, which
version do you have?
