unable to surf web with router in place

John

I recently had a D-link wireless router set up for a home
network. The router died for some reason unknown.I have a
desk top computer that runs WinXP Pro and a Laptop that
runs WINXP Home. My desktop was then setup to run
dierctly to my Cable modem. My problem is that I bought a
new D-link 614+ wireless router. Followed the directions
for setting it up. the router picks up the IP address
fine. I can connect the laptop with a hard wire to the
router and surf the web and receive e-mail no problem.
The problem is my desk top will not surf the web or send
or receive e-mail. The desktop configs the router no
problems have compared settings to the laptop and all are
the same. Spent two (2) hours on the phone with D-link
and the best they could come up with is a possible
winSock ?? error. They sent me a fix which I applied with
no luck. We tried everything, specify IP addresses and
the sort. I can post this message by disconnecting the
router and connecting directly to the cable modem. All
settings are set to use DHCP. Listed below are the things
we have tried as well as a error.

Problem Description:
Customer cannot get online thru the router

Connection Type: (Cable)
WAN Configuration: (Dynamic)
Modem (Brand/Model):Motorola Surfboard
Operating System:XP pro
VPN Software:N/A
Version:

Agent Response:
1.Check phisical connection.
2.Power off the cable modem.
3.Reset the router with paper clip for 15 seconds.
4.Open IE and type the router's address.
5.Login to the configuration of the router.
6.Set router to dynamic and clone the mac address.
7.Dhcp release.
8.Power on the cable modem.
9.Dhcp renew.
10.Test the connection. (DNS ERROR)
11.Set static ip address to 192.168.0.15
12.Ping 4.2.2.2 Timed out.
13.Dhcp release.
14.Power cycle the cable modem.
15.Dhcp renew.

Any and all help would be appreciated Any questions I'll
try and answer.
Also how would I go about using XP to do a repair as I
have read in some of the strings???

Thank you

ping 4.2.2.2 timeout is the OK here. use tracert command to find where the
traffic go, or post ipconfig /all here.
