Unable to send emails from Outlook 2003

Anna

I've just set up Outlook 2003 and although it is receiving emails fine
I have been unable to send emails and have been receiving the
following error message:

"Task 'pop.freeserve.com - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC65) :
'Your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server has reported an internal error. If
you continue to receive this message, contact your server
administrator or Internet service provider (ISP). The server
responded: 503 valid RCPT command must precede DATA' "

I have read reams of solutions to other similar problems people have
had, and have made sure that Norton antivirus is no longer scanning
outgoing mail, and that the "My outgoing server SMTP requires
authentication" box in the Outlook email settings is ticked.

Thank you in advance for any more advice you can offer.

Have you contacted your ISP to decipher the error message?

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

After searching google.groups.com and finding no answer, Anna asked:
