Unable to see network drives

Jeff

I am trying to network my Desktop Computer and my Laptop
Computer in order to transfer files from one to the
other. I have a cable connection that is attached to a
Linksys router. I have checked the Local Area Connection
on both the Desktop and Laptop and both have the Client
for Microsoft Networks, QoS Packet Scheduler, File and
Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks and Internet
Protocol (TCP/IP) installed. The Desktop is using
Windows XP Pro and the Laptop has Windows XP Home. Both
computets have been manually configured with an
individual IP address in TCP/IP. Both have the same
workgoup name. I have turned the security and sharing on
the drives I want to be on the network. When I go to Map
Network Drive, Desktop sees itself and the Laptop but not
the shared drives, the Latop does not see itself or the
desktop or any shared drives.

Jeff, I'm having more or less the same problem as you.
However, when I click on the response that you got, it
shows up as "not available" as so many of the responses
do on this bulletin board. I've got my security set
pretty low, so I can't figure it out. Any ideas?

Not sure as to what you mean by the net share command.
When I trying to map from the Laptop to the Desktop, only
the workgroup name appears and nothing else. When I
right click on the Workgroup name and choose open, I ge
the following response: Workgroupname is not
accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource. Contact the Administrator of this
server to find out if you have access permissions.

The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently
available.

I was able to resolve my problem with mapping drives
between desktop and laptop. It appears that my Nortons
Internet Security and Firewall was not fully configured
and was blocking the IP Address for my home network.
