Unable to right click an StartMenu entry and choose open

I can right click on All Programs and choose open or open All Users. It will
open an Explorer window.

However doing so to the folders in the All Programs menu will result in
nothing. There is nothing in the event view either.

Any hint?

Thanks!

See if the following helps.

Right click an open spot on your Taskbar and select Properties
from the menu.
Click on the Start Menu tab.
On the Start Menu page, hit the Customize button.
In Customize Start Menu, click on the Advanced tab.
On the Advanced page, look in the Start menu items box and make
sure "Enable dragging and dropping" is checked.
Click OK twice.

Good luck

Without that option checked, there will be no context menu. I've disabled
and re-enabled it. Still the same problem.

I realized that I did not clean up all the keys. Do you know which key
affects StartMenu only but not the regular explorer?

Thanks!

Try this after disabling shell extensions.

jeff's WebLog : how to cleanly start and stop explorer.exe:

Or simply reboot once for the changes to take effect.

Shell extensions are common to explorer and Start menu.

In Explorer, there are far more options in the context menu vs StartMenu
folder contains just the basics

It depends on how the shell extensions are implemented. It may be different for file type .xyz, and different for .123. Shell extensions can be implemented on a per-file type basis or globally, or only for file system folders.

Finally found the problem. I disabled a few non-MS context menu items. Then
when I right click on an open area, a setup appears. It turns out be
Microsoft PhotoInfo. I reinstalled it and now everything is working. Thanks!
