Unable to Print Envelopes

Windows XP
Word 2000

For years I have been able to print envelopes in Word 2000 without any
problems, but now it is unworkable. No matter what settings I use, or
what size envelope I select, when I click on print preview it shows a
landscape A4 size paper every time, not the envelope size one would
expect to see.

I have two accounts on my machine, one for the wife and one for me. The
envelope printing function works perfectly in my wife's account, so it
would seem that there is a problem with my settings somewhere. I have
tried a System Restore but get the error message "System restore was
unable to restore your computer to an earlier time".

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

System Restore would be unlikely to help you with a Word problem. I
can't help with your problem either, other than to suggest that you're
much more likely to get the help you're looking for if you would post
your question in a Word newsgroup.

The basic requirements for most printers to print envelopes.
Go to printers & faxes in control panel & select your printer with rt mouse
button & go to properties.
Search for & set paper size to D4 envelope or whatever your size is.
Send the job to the printer & on the popup window double check paper size is
set to D4 envelopes.
Try one old envelope or even an A4 size sheet. (or letter size in that other
country!)

I tried that, sent my post to "microsoft.public.word.general" on the
20th and NOBODY has posted on that NG since! :)

Thanks for responding, I followed BruceM's advice and the problem is now
fixed, see below.

Thanks Bruce,

I followed your instructions, but was unable to follow them *exactly*,
however, with a couple of minor alterations I managed to overcome my
problem.

Once again, many thanks, your help much appreciated.

Please be careful what message in the thread you reply to. I'm not the
person with the problem.
