Unable to open webpages

Recently I have been unable to open webpages using Internet Explorer 6.
After opening IE, it loads my homepage (regardless of what it is) and then
just sits there trying to load any other page I want to go to. I type in a
URL in the Address Bar and press enter or click GO and nothing happens. No
error message, just the waving flag in the upper right hand corner and the
progress bar slowly filling up at the bottom.

I am using Firefox currently to access the web (and type this message) so my
internet connection is obviously fine. I have cleared cache and cookies and
reset the browser to its defaults (security settings etc). Nothing has
changed this.

Not sure if anyone else has had this problem and was able to resolve it.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide.

Hi,
First... are you current on updates for Windows/Internet Explorer?
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

Then... an add-on, BHO, or toolbar may be causing this.
[XP SP2] From IE> Tools> Manage add-ons. Disable non-microsoft add-ons to
see if one of them is the culprit.
[Non SP2] Internet Options> Advanced> uncheck "Enable third-party browser
extensions." If either of these helps, you still need to find the
troublesome program, BHO or add-on.

Toolbar Cop from http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/Toolkit.htm can help identify
and remove add-ons, BHOs, etc.

Then...
Do you have this registry key?
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{c90250f3-4d7d-4991-9b69-a5c5bc1c2ae6}
Reference: http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2005/12/16/504864.aspx
You should not have this key with IE6. An update for IE6 may have created
it. Installing or updating Firefox may have created it.
Installing/uninstalling IE7 Beta may have left the key behind.

If you find that key in your registry, Export it (just in case) Delete it.
Restart.

If you're not familiar with regedit, please post back or seek help.

Then...
You may have malware installed (adware, spyware, trojan, hijacker, etc.)
