Unable to map network drive with XP

Thomas

With XP it seems to be impossible to map a network drive:
client for MS Network is installed.
the remote machine is reachable via TCP/IP (ping).
the remote drive is shared, access and security ok.
Trying to map the drive using the IP address:
\\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\share
XP responds, that this network path could not be found.
(Also tried with and without Netbios over TCP/IP).
the remote drive can be mapped by any other machine.
Exception: XP.
What is the reason for that?
