Unable to login automatically logs me off

I am unable to login. Every time I login it automatically logs me off without
giving me a chance.
Virus def are update. Firewall is install with a router. It can't be a virus.
I believe a system startup file was delete.

Yes, whether I use a regular username or the administrator account. As soon
as I log in it automatically starts saving data and logs me off. I never get
a chance to see the start menu. I don't get a chance to open or run any
programs.

automatically logs me off as soon as I log on.
I have been searching the web but haven't found a resolution. Next step
might be formatting and rebuilding.

A clean install is pretty drastic. What happens in Safe Mode?
(Start in safe mode by tapping F8 as soon as you see the BIOS screen.)
