Unable to Join a Win2K Domain through a VPN

Help..I am unable to join a workstation to our domain through a VPN
tunnel. I am able to ping by server name and IP with no problem. I can
even trace route to the PDC. I am successfull with reaching our DHCP
server and DNS as well. I have NetBIOS on the workstation and have
LMHOST.
Is there something I am missing?

TIA

JC

I'm using Netopia R910 routers and XP Pro stations.

I had a similar issue recently. It turned out that the box at one end of
the VPN tunnel was blocking TCP ports 137-139, which was preventing a trustr
relationship being establish and stopping drive mappings. I suspect that
had the remote end's server not already been a domain member, the domain
join operation would have failed as well.

One test would be to see if you can successfully issue a "net use" command
and connect to a remote share by supplying the username and password. If
this also fails, it's a fair bet that some of the NetBIOS-related ports are
being blocked somewhere along the line.

I tested TCP connectivity by running a packet monitor and generating traffic
by typing "telnet 192.168.1.1 135" and then for ports 136, 137, 138 and 139.
If you have such tools available, you could try a similar test.

Regards

Oli
