Hi gurus

I Installed windows 2000 on my computer from scratch, I then went to install
IE6 on my computer but I keep getting this message:

"Setup was unable to download the required components. Please make sure you
are connected to the Internet, or try to run Setup again later"

I have tried everything but the right thing I guess, because nothing seems
to work around this.

Can you guys help me.
Thanks

Hi

You need to be connected to the internet, the installer is trying to
download the relevent software from the microsoft server (from the net)

Do you have IE on already?

Hi naguaramipana :)

This is not an uncommon problem, and many have found it easier to download
the IE6 SP1 from the website to their hard drive and install it from there.
You might try the following and see if it will help:

Download Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/ie6sp1/default.mspx
To get the download file:
http://public.planetmirror.com/pub/microsoft/ie/

Hope this helps :)

Some types of scumware can also prevent a good installation. Try the
following information and make sure your system is fully cleaned, then try
the install again. Make sure your AV, firewall and any 3rd party toolbars
are totally disabled before the installation. I'm sure that others will
also have some good suggestions for you to try. :)

First, Clear the TIF's and empty the recycle bin:

See this article for possible help:

You Cannot Finish Installing or Upgrading Internet Explorer

Less common issue:

Cannot Install the Vector Graphics Rendering Component When You Upgrade to
Internet Explorer 6
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;329566

When installing IE, it's best to first do a power-off reboot, then disable
any anti-virus program you may have running, then do a CTRL+ALT+DEL and End
Task on everything on the list except (Windows) Explorer and Systray. Then
try your install again. This method will help prevent any program you may
have running in the background, and the anti-virus software, from
interfering with the install of IE. Some AV software just plain messes up
an install of IE, and other programs may be using a file that IE needs to
update/replace/remove.
