Unable To Install WinXP Pro in New Hard Disk

I already have a 80GB hard disk with WinXP Pro installed in 2
partitions (out of the 9 partitions - 3 of which are Linux
partitions).

I added a new 80GB hard disk today & created 4 partitions. I want to
install WinXP Pro in the first partition of this new hard disk (J:)
but when I boot from the WinXP Pro CD to install it, the setup says
that Windows cannot install WinXP in the new hard disk. In fact, when
the setup lists the partitions of the 2 hard disks, it shows the 9
partitions in the first hard disk (id0) correctly but it doesn't
display the 4 partitions of the new hard disk. The entire new disk is
just listed as J: (& not J;, K:, L: & M:).

Note that if I go to Disk Management (right-click My Computer---
Manage--->Disk Management), then the new hard disk is shown
partitioned into 4 partitions. The "Layout" of these 4 partitions is
"simple" unlike the 9 partitions in the old hard disk which is
"Partition". Moreover, the "Type" of the 4 partitions in the new hard
disk is "Dynamic" whereas the "Type" of the 9 partitions in the old
hard disk is "Basic".

Can someone please guide me how do I overcome this problem & install
WinXP Pro in the first partition of the new hard disk?

Please note that all the 4 partitions created in the new hard disk
have the NTFS file system.

Thanks,

Ron

Just a guess, but is the new hard drive is SATA, then the XP installer
probably can not "see" it without special drivers form the motherboard
manufacturer. If SATA, and/or RAID, or SCSI, hit F6 early during the
installation and have the drivers on a floppy (not on a CD).

Use the tools provided in the winxp cd to create the partitions, not third
part tools or Disk Management

PS unless you have 3 seperate winxp cd's you are breaching the licence
agreament.
80gb with 9 partitions 2 of which are winxp installs - not much space to do
anything.

Right click in the box that says Dynamic, and select Revert to Basic.
