Unable to install Windows XP Home Service Pack 2.

Hi all,

We have a Dell box, just out of warranty, that had a harddrive failure. We
do not have an install disk from Dell. I downloaded the 6 bootable CDs for
Windows XP Home Service Pack 2, and I created a CD from my MSDN DVD. I
created an ISO CD of Windows XP Home SP2. When I boot from the floppies it
says 'insert CD lableled Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 CD' and hit
enter. I do that, and it just comes right back saying the same thing. I
have created the CD 5 times burning both the ISO version as well as an
unzipped copy with both no label and the exact label it says it is looking
for. What do I need to do to install XP home?

Thanks guys!

You need a Generic OEM version of Windows XP Home and you *LIKELY* can use
it with your Dell Product Key (stuck on the machine - sticker) to install
Windows XP Home from the Generic Windows XP Home CD.

The MSDN version and the OEM versions are *not* the same.

You post is a bit unclear. Why are you using the 6 Boot Floppy Disks to
begin with? An XP installation CD is bootable and has all the tools to
install XP.

What exactly did you do when you state, "I created an ISO CD of Windows XP
Home SP2"? What normally happens with an .iso file, is using some burning
software that can handle it, you burn the .iso image file to CD which would
create the CD. In this case if the .iso is an image file of XP Home then it
would create a bootable XP Home installation CD.

The MSDN version of XP Home might not work with the license key that came
with the DELL.
