Following a recent crash I still have some bugs.(Windows XP Professional) I
have Service pack2 installed.
-- <when I try to install printer driver I get the following popup:

( Heading: 16 bit Windows Subsystem)
shep The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.
CS:05d5 IP:0100 OP:63 6f 6d 6d 61 Choose 'Close' to terminate
the
application.

Someone help please (I am a 'silver surfer' and not very
genned up.)

This sounds like the printer driver software is corrupt. What does Epson
say about this error?
There is nothing that a normal user can do about an illegal instruction.

Epson printers, and for that matter just about any Epson products, are
notoriously picky about how they want to be installed. My Epson Stylus
Photo 820, for example, can not be properly installed using the Add New
Hardware Wizard. It must be installed using the Epson installation CD.
Follow the installation instructions closely.
