UNABLE TO INSTALL MODEM - function driver is missing

Hi!
I have 2 problems:

1) After some changes of devices on USB & com ports I
have !!! 35 !!! com ports. What can I do with it? How to
delete them? Device manager do not see them, but when I
nstall something new (USB cable for some mobile, ...), it
is installed as on COM X. When i put it to another USB
port, nov it's on COM X+1. And X raises!!! ;-(
The same problem was with modems on com ports.
com1 - "askey"
com2 - "askey#2"
Is there some branch in registry or what? ;-(

2) I have one program that can use only com 1 - 4.
So I bring up backup of hardware profile, uninstal all
modems an so on. When I want to reinstal modems I got this:
"The installation failed because a function driver was not
specified for this device instance."
Does it mean I have uninstalled some .inf

When I tried to add modem manually, it offers me to
install VGA, mouse, joystick, ... but NOT modem! ;-(

ThanX FYHelp in advance! ;-)

An usual symptom of failure during driver installation.

yep, and here is the failure.
Somebody (or you) tried to install this USB thing using win98 driver (or other wrong driver),
so the wrong INF is stuck in the system. You need to find and delete it.
If you don't know how, call your local professional service.

Hi!
1) OK, usual symptom. But how to kick off these com ports?
It does it even when I install other devices, not just
one... ;-(

2) I think I've removed more inf's then I had to... ;-(
Even when I reinstal it again, it does not work.

I suppose I've deleted (or some uninstallation utility)
something that makes PC to know, what to do with something
called modem.
