Unable to find WAB DLL

error message: An error occurred while attempting to open
Windows Address Book. Unable to find WAB DLL.

I'm running Outlook 2000 on XP. The above message shows
up everything I try to save/change a contact or when doing
a lookup "by clicking on the TO: button" on sending an
email.

Searching the windows/system32 folder I do find
OUTLWAB.DLL. I also have a wab32.dll at
Windows/ServicePackfiles/i386.

Does anyone know which WAB DLL file the message is
referring to?

Thanks.

Then you are using Outlook Express's address book engine. You will need to
rename any wab32.dll's that you find and reinstall Outlook Express.

I think I'm having the same problem. Mine says Internet Mail Only as well. How can I discontinue using the old Outlook Express WAB and start using my Outlook Contacts instead

Thanks so much

Using which address book?
Outlook's Address Book will ONLY use your Outlook Contacts.
Are you talking about some other address book?

Thanks so much Russ.

I replaced Outlook Express with Outlook some time ago. I recently updated Outlook online and it corrupted my WAB.DLL somehow. Now I cannot originate or reply to emails thru Outlook due to the missing DLL.

Any help you can provide will be appreciated.

How did you "replace" OE with Outlook?
One does not replace the other and both must be present for Outlook to work.
You probably need to reinstall OE if you ever tried to remove it.

OE was removed long ago and Outlook has been working fine (or so I think...). My Outlook Contacts are still "in tact". Are you telling me Outlook requires OE in order for Outlook to function

If so, do I need to remove Outlook before reinstalling OE or what sequence would you suggest

I really appreciate all your help!

IMO mode of Outlook uses OE's address book engine and shares many other
dll's with OE. You should not need to uninstall Outlook. Just close it. Find
and rename any wab32.dll files on your hard drive, then reinstall OE.
