Unable to find network after XP format installation

I recently did a complete reinstallation of XP Home and have had some
difficulties with it. During the installation process, I was not asked about
any internet setup or network setup. After installation, I was not able to
find a way to establish a connection with my cable modem even though it is
connected to my PC and is operating. I have been unable to locate any
postings or help from Dell (worthless) that could show me how to solve this
problem. Any ideas??

Did you update all the drivers for your computer after installing it afresh?

Did you update all the drivers for your computer after installing it afresh?

Not yet. I attemped (several times) to get the video driver to install, but
to no avail. I thought the internet would be important to have up on the
computer after that to assist me.
