I have a Canon camera. I have tried uninstalling a Canon program from the
control panel. It will not uninstall. I have tried using the uninstall.exe
from the Common Files/Canon. It won't uninstall. Canon couldn't help me at
all. We tried several different things, even a system restore. Nothing
works. Any suggestions?

It doesn't solve the problem. To reinstall, all Canon programs need to be
removed.

Hello Helen,
Have you tried "Take ownership of an item" option? If not , Here is the
link :
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67717-take-ownership-file.html
After you have it installed, go to that Canon program, right click on it,
click Take Ownership, then unintall it.
Let me know if it works or not.

I've tried it. Doesn't work. It doesn't allow me to repair. I've have
installed and uninstalled. I've even done a system restore. Nothing will
allow me to uninstall that program.

There is always the extreme measure: go into the registry and delete
every reference to the program and/or the camera.

Not for the faint-of-heart.

I clicked on the link and I'm so confused I have no idea what to do. First
of all, do I have to download something to do this??? Second, he starts
listing things as related links, then he comes to METHOD ONE: Automatic Way:
Through the Context (right click) Menu: 1. See How to take ownership to the
contex menu in Vista. WHAT IS THE CONTEXT?????? I'm trying to get rid of a
folder in my control panel under programs. I'm not sure what these
directions point to.

Also, where am I supposed to take ownership of this program??? In the
control panel??? I'm not a computer person. I don't know about all this
stuff. The entire tutorial was like greek to me. There are so many things
listed I have no idea which one I'm supposed to do.

Hello Helen,
Sorry if I confused you. Calm down. Here is a new link that will take you
right to the "how-to" of Method One.

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/112795-context-menu-take-ownership.html

Now, when you're are there, ignor the "related links" , "note" etc., scroll
right down to HERE'S HOW.
1. Click " A) Add_Take_Ownership.reg"
2. A popup window will appear, click RUN
3.Just follow the instructions. If you're prompted (asking if you want to
go on, click Continue). If you get a warning and ask if you allow or not,
click ALLOW. The rest is justing following instructions.
When installation is done, open the program you want to removed, RIGHT
CLICKon it, you'll see a popup , choose the column that says "Take
Ownership". Now you can start removing the file.
You can remove/uninstall any program/file/folder using this method if you
run into a similar problem. Just to be clear : the option is now installed
in your computer. You do Not have to go back to the link again.
Let me know if it's ok now.
