unable to create in shared documents folder

I inadvertantly altered something on the shared documents folder and now cant create folders there. Tried different user logins but no joy. Cant see what is wrong. On properties the checkbox for read only is dimly lit which I understand to mean that some sub-folders/ files are write protected. I unchceked that box and tried to apply but get access denied on every subfolder and file. Any ideas appreciated.

Hi,

Were you messing with permissions? Have you tried taking ownership of the
folder?
