Unable to Control Header in html mail

I just switched computers now using Outlook 2003 SP1 with all current
updates. I previously used Outlook XP and imported all previous settings. I
am using Word as my Outlook editor - same as on previous PC. I cannot print
preview HTML documents - error dialog says it cannot be done. Using same
printer as previous PC, when I print HTML messages the top left shows 'Normal
Template' and top right shows 'Page 1 of #' and bottom left shows date. In
page setup all the header and footer areas are blank. If I try to change the
header and footer the HTML messages are unchanged and still print as above,
only plain text messages show the changes. I want to stop printing 'Normal
Template' on messages and be able to control the header and footer content. I
am using WinXP Pro SP2.

The dialog is correct - you can't preview HTML.

If I'm following correctly, the header and footers are behaving as expected,
with the except of the Word template name. Are you seeing that on incoming
mail? Are you using stationery?

Strangely enough, the problem seems to have disappeared by itself! Incoming
and sent HTML messages now no longer show 'normal template' top left (now
blank) with page in top right corner and date in lower left corner. Plain
text messages show no headers or footers at all - no print date, no paging.
Perhaps you can explain to readers why these settings are different for HTML
and plain text and how to control them?

HTML uses the IE print engine, plain text uses outlook's print engine. (It's
also why you can control the pages that print if they are HTML)
