Unable to connect to server

Rob Monroe

Day before yesterday I suddenly was unable to send or receive mail.
Running Windows XP
I get mail through Outlook
DSL Line connected through LAN
I spent the last hour working my way through with a Yahoo operator. I
connect to the internet. All my settings in Outlook are correct. They are
not inadvertantly changed by Norton Antivirus. I am able to send and
receive mail through the Yahoo servers on their website. But I continually
get "Unable to connect to the server. etc." whenever I press send/receive in
Outlook.
As far as I know, beyond the usuall weekly windows updates, I have installed
no new software or hardware over the last week.

Do you have the same problem using Outlook Express? If the answer is no to
the above, have you tried creating a new Outlook mail profile via the mail
applet in the Control Panel (don't copy the existing one)? If the answer is
yes, are you behind a Linksys router that lets you share a single IP address
with multiple computers? If the answer is yes, have you tried lowering your
MTU on Windows XP so that it comes in under ethernet (or PPOE) standards?
