Unable to connect to default shares

David Hicks

Hi,

I have a W2K Pro client machine that has the default
shares installed (C$, ADMIN$ and IFC$) but I cannot
connect to these shares from any other computer on the
network. I have full admin rights (as a domain admin) so
I should be able to do this.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Hi David,

If the Win2K Pro system is a part of the Domain, you should be able to do
this without any trouble.

If it is not, you could change the admin password on the Win2K Pro machine
to match the domain admin password and try connecting as the admin. You can
also try adding a new user to the Pro machine who already exist in the
domain (passwords should match) and add him to the local admin group. Then
try connecting to the share as that user.

And if it is a part of the domain and you are not able to connect to the
admin shares, you can still try the options above.
