Unable to Complete VPN Connection to another Network

Hi,

I wonder if anyone can assist. I have a laptop that we use to VPN in to
different company sites using microsofts WAN miniport (PPTP), however it will
no longer connect over VPN, the connection always results in an Error 619.

I have read all the different microsoft support files on this, however they
all seem to relate to Windows server 2003 or previous windows editions. The
machine is currently running Windows XP Professional.

It stopped connecting about a month ago. I have checked the following

1. Registry settings to make sure that it does not authenticate connections.
2. Tried to find RAS on the system to be able to connect the RAS server,
however you require Routing and Access plug in from console to do this and
this is not an option.
3. Replaced all the relvant WAN Miniport drivers within the system folder
4. Turned off all firewalls settings on the system.

I am now at a lose and it is important that I get this computer working, any
assistance or ideas on this would be much appreciated.

This is often caused by other programs using the Internet connection when
you're trying to connect to the VPN. This may involve toolbars, instant
messenger programs, etc. but I have found Trojans or Spyware to be the most
frequent cause.

Many Thanks GTS,

I think you may have hit the nail on the head with this, will do some more
work on the laptop and remove all the instant messengers etc.
