Unable to browse VPN Client's Shared Resources

_(d)IEGO

Hi all,

We have a machine that has a DSL connection and a LAN connection. We
use the DSL connection for VPN to our remote office. Connection to the
remote office is fine and we can access all the resources from the
remote server. The problem is, when the VPN client is connected to the
remote office, all other PC's on the Local Area Network cannot access
the shared folders on the client.

Please help

Thanks in advance.

Hi Robert,

Thanks for your reply.

No the VPN is not running on a domain controller. Let me try to explain
the problem further. The client a member of a local waorkgroup and has
2 NICs, one for the DSL connection (let's call it NIC1), and one for
the LAN (let's call it NIC2). The NIC1 has static IP assigned by our
ISP with static gateway as well. NIC2 also has a static address, with
its own static gateway. Is it alright to have a gateway for different
NICs?

What we have in the setup is we set the IP and gateway for NIC2
manually and for NIC1 we set only the IP and route add the other
destination address. Is this ok?

IP Settings:
NIC1: IP: 10.100.0.138
GATEWAY: 10.100.0.137 (not assigned in the TCP/IP settings)
DNS: NONE DEFINED

NIC2: IP: 172.12.18.42
GATEWAY: 172.12.18.12
DNS NONE DEFINED

During startup we manually execute the ff:
ROUTE ADD 10.100.0.0 mask 255.255.255.0 10.100.0.138

When this PC is connected to VPN it is assigned an address in the this
subnet: 10.1.3.x by the RRAS server. It is when the VPN connection is
established that PCs in the 172.12.18.x subnet could not access the
shared resource in this PC.

BTW, NIC2 address assignment is not set by us but rather from a
different IT Group (different company) that operates the building
(Mall) where the PC is located.

Hope I got my point across.

Thanks in advance.
