Unable to Boot up

Help!

I turned on my labtop tody and received the following
error message:

"NTLDR is missing....Press any key to continue"

As a result, the operating system doesn't boot up.

I found an article in the Microsoft Knoweledge base
(265509).

It says to resolve the problem I need the latest service
pack for Windows 2000. Unfortunately I can't download the
service pack since I can't get the labtop to boot up.

There is a workaround listed (method 1 and method 2).
Unfortunately I don't have a recovery counsel set up to
utlize Method 1.

Option 2 talks about obtaining the following files:
Ntldr file
Boot.ini
Ntdetect.com

It says to copy these files to a floppy disc to boot up
the machine.

1) Does anyone know an easy way to obtain these files?
2) Are the files copies to the DOS prompt to boot up the
system?
3) I don't have an internal floppy drive. Can I boot up
the machine using an external floppy drive or do I need
to use the CD Rom drive?
4) I took the labtop to a local technical shop and they
said you can't boot up the machine from an external
floppy disc. They said I needed to reload the operating
system to resolve the issue. Is this true?

I would appreciate any input on this topic. There isn't
alot of information in the Microsoft Knowledge Base
Article (265509). As a result, I could use some guidance.

You can copy them from another machine running Windows 2000. However,
you're going to need to edit the boot.ini file to match the partition
information of the hard drive on your...uh..."labtop".
2) Are the files copies to the DOS prompt to boot up the

This question doesn't make much sense...

3) I don't have an internal floppy drive. Can I boot up

You can boot up on any device that the BIOS will let you.

If the BIOS doesn't allow booting on the external drive, then they are
correct. You probably don't -=HAVE=- to reload the operating system, but
that's definately the easiest way to resolve your problem. Actually, if you
boot from the Win2k CD, it will start the installation process and because
it will detect an existing Win2k installation, it will ask you if you want
to install the operating system from scratch or repair the existing
installation - try choosing the latter.

BTW, what's a "labtop"? :)
