Hi Rick

I have tried this and the windows file protection screen verification screen
boots in. However it then prompts :
files that are required for windows to run properley must be copied to the
dll cache.

then it advises to install windows XP disk.

I do this but nothing happens?>
!!

Please help!

Hi,

Is your system preinstalled? Is your disk a generic OEM or retail disk or a
proprietary image disk? The latter won't work for this, and you must
redirect the scanner to check the I386 folder on the hard drive for the
needed files. To do this, see http://rickrogers.org/fixes.htm#I386

Hello Guys
Not trying to hijack your thread but I have been getting a very similar
error message It refers to a different line but all the digits (2088999592)
are the same
My problem started after running SP2 for XP and losing all sound, when I
looked I had lost the wee speaker volume control & the system advised the way
to get it back was thru Add/Remove etc

It was suggested vy a MS MVP that I run %SystemRoot% \Inf\Sysoc.inf , then
check note pad this check found a semicolon (;) which should not have been
there, removed that & bingo I still get the error message' I've been
wrestling with this issue for some time & trying what fixes I can, not being
very knowledgable in systems I have taken advice from the experts
One thing which bothers me a bit is that an online search of MS does not
recognise this issue

Any fix suggestions will be appreciated I have lost interest in my
favourite live game as it is a bit dull without sound

Thanks in anticipation
