Unable to add counters

I am unable to add any performance counters. The list of available counters
is only numbers, and if selected they do not have any counters. In addition,
there is an Application Error Event indicating that the net performance
counters could not be loaded. If I issue "Net Statistics" from the command
prompt it returns "Workstation" and "Server" as running performance services.

The "Disable performance counters" registry keys are all set to 0, and I
have enabled every service on the machine.

There was a similar issue posted in the knowledgebase for Windows Server
2000 but nothing for XP.

I am running XP Professional Service Pack 2, fully up to date.

Any suggestions? Thanks,
DJG

Well, I tried running sfc /scannow to no effect. I couldn't find anything
else to try, so I reinstalled the operating system from scratch. This has
corrected the problem.
