unable to access the Recovery Console

My computer was infected with Coolwebsearch, and I've been trying to get to
the nasty .dll to fix it. I'm trying to access the Recovery Console, but when
I try to log in to it using my administrator account, it won't accept my
password. I am able to log onto Windows using the same account and same
password.
any suggestions?
Thank you,

thanks for the reply. I wasn't clear enough in my original post though.
When I boot from my WinXP CD and hit 'R' to start the recovery console, I'm
prompted for my administrators password. When I enter the correct password
(The same one that gets me into Windows on my administrator account) it comes
up that it's incorrect and prompts me to try again. After three tries, my
computer will restart into windows, not letting me acce3ss the recovery
console. I can't figure out why my password will let me access windows, but
not the recovery console....I'm using the same account.

Are you using a local admin to get into windows, or a domain account? You
need the local account to get into recovery console.

Thank you,

Try This
Recovery Console Password- Do this BEFORE you need it! Like maybe now.
On many XP installations you can't start the Recovery Console because it
won't recognize your password. This registry edit causes the Recovery Console
not to ask for a password. This works for both XP Home and XP Professional.
Start | Run | Regedit
Navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Setup\RecoveryConsole
Set the DWORD SecurityLevel value to 1
Exit Registry and Reboot

It is a bit drastic to use the recovery console for a CWS infection, give
about buster a shot at it first.

Sometimes, when you remove malware it will stop your TCP/IP
stack from working (Internet connection).
Winsock or LSP-fix will correct the problem,Download first.
Note to anyone using NOD32 Anti-Virus software,Do Not delete the
"imon.dll" this fix reports,That is your e/mail scanning engine.

YES-You need more than 1 malware program, the one's below are all free
and work well.
LSP-fix- http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm

to your registry or changes your home/search page,a nice little program.

The password being requested is that of the built-in
_Administrator_ account, not the password for any other administrative
user accounts that the computer's owner may have created. Unless the
owner deliberately set the Administrator's password via the Management
Console (_not_ the Control Panel), it's probably still blank. WinXP
Pro asks the installer to set the Administrator's password during
installation, but WinXP Home doesn't.

The Recovery Console password usually isn't the same one as your regular
account. Normally the Recovery Console password is blank, so try to
boot with your XP cd again, go into Recovery Console and try using a
blank password.
