Unable to access the directory "System Volume Information"

C

Clay

When I boot up, I get a pop-up message telling me that:

"Trojan 'BackDoor.Harmony.O' is found in C:\System Volume
Information\_restore{1AE93D8D-7B85-400C-9A87-BB3D2C508839}\RP213\A0037072.sc
r", run [your] anti-virus program to remove it.

When I run my anti-virus program, it fails to remove it (or even access that
directory.

When I try to access the System Volume directory myself, I get an "access
denied" error message.

How the hell do I gain control over my own computer to correct this problem?

The trojab/virus is in your 'System Restore' files
Suggestion is to turn off the said 'System Restore', reboot, rerun AV, turn
'System Restore' back on.

To turn 'System Restore' off/on;
Control Panel
'System' icon
'System Restore' tab
tick/untick 'Turn off System Restore on all drives'

Hi

You need to manually delete the virus from the System Restore folder:

Right click on My Computer, select Properties and then the System Restore tab. Enable 'Turn off System Restore on all drives' and reboot your PC. After that reboot go back into System Restore, disable 'Turn off System Restore on all drives' and reboot your PC again. After the second reboot, System Restore will create a new Point and the virus will have been deleted.

Heres another Microsoft Article;
'How to Gain Access to the System Volume Information Folder'
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;309531

However, as of above, if you start messing in said folder, it is quite
likely that your 'System Restore' points will become unusable. Thus you will
need to purge (turn-off ) the S.R. anyway.

Greetings --

To clear viruses from the "System Volume Information," simply turn
off the System Restore feature (Start > All Programs > Accessories >
System Tools > System Restore, System Restore Settings), reboot, then
re-enable System Restore, and reboot one last time. This will delete
all of your Restore Points, including the corrupted one(s), and allow
you start with a clean slate.

However, if you have Restore Points that you'd really rather not
lose, and know which one is corrupted, very carefully try this:
