Dear all,

This is common problem which I have seen with Window XP editions that It
lost CD Rom's but I am unable to find the proper solution for that.

The problem is this I have installed the windows XP last night I worked on
it for whole night and get all software installed with my CD Rom the very
next day when I start my computer I find that my CD Rom was not in the list
of Device manager where it is present in BIOS setup, without making any
change in hardware setting if I switch to Win98 I am able to access the same.

Pls. If anyone have the solution of this problem. pls. provide the
guidliness to overcome this problem.

Thanx,
Shyam

it may be due to the fact that you're installing software for the cd-rom.
generally, XP will automatically detect atapi devices like CD-ROMs and
assign them letters on its own.

try not running any sort of software or drivers for the CD drive, backup
your config files of course, and see if that helps.

This arises where some driver style components have been removed leaving
references in the registry that can no longer be satisfied on boot. The
system plays safe. To tidy up, get a registry patch file, cdgone.reg,
from www.aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip, extract it, r-click on it and
merge it into the registry

You will then need to reinstall any third party CD burning software that
you use.
