Ultra Dma mode

Hi guys, not sure if this is the right place to ask this question or not but
here goes anyways. I recently installed Hard Drive Inspector Pro on my
computer and it gives me this warning when I run it "Your disk is working in
Ultra DMA mode 4(66MB/s) while its optimal mode is Ultra DMA mode 5
(100MB/s0. This may be a cause of reduced disk performance". What does this
mean and what do I do about it? Any help is greatly appreciated. Ty.

Stevie,

I had exactly the same problem recently.

My solution had to do with the BIOS on the motherboard.

The BIOS used to show UDMA5 as being available, but WinXP would only use
UDMA4.
I use a Gigabyte GA-6VTXE motherboard, which is quite old in computer terms.
I contacted Gigabyte Technical Support, and they sent me a BIOS update, and
instructions on how to load the new BIOS.
Once I loaded it, WinXP started using UDMA5.

Another thing you should check is the IDE bus cable. It should be 80 wire.
The conductors look very thin, and the plugs on the cable are different.
There should be 3 different coloured plugs, designating which one plugs into
the motherboard, (the long end), the master drive, (the other end) and the
slave drive (the one in the middle).

If you have the correct cable, and the BIOS is set for Auto, then you could
try a BIOS update from your Mobo manufacturer.

Good luck.
