Typing accented foreign chars is changing font from Times to ARIAL

Dear all,
We have many computers with XP + Office 2003 and we have just discovered
issue with typing foreign (non-English) chars in Powerpoint
When typing (using foreign keyboard layout) foreign chars if Font for
presentation is ARIAL or Verdana (any sans serif) everything is OK, but if
selected font for presentation is Times (or other Serif) then new typed char
will be in ARIAL. Practically we cannot TYPE any Times/Serif foreign
(non-English) char
In Word – everything is fine under any combination.
Is that some bug with powerpoint or Office configuration or else
I can provide you with screen snapshots

ADD-ON:
Normal/Default Paste from WORD behave in the same way, while if we select
KEEP FORMAT after pasting - then everything will work "NORMAL" - as expected
- all chars will be in correct font
