type on slides during show?

During a powerpoint presentation I want to type answers from audience onto
slides. Right now I escape to slide view and type into a text box already
set up on the slide. I get rid of everything possible on the screen in the
slide view but is there a better way?

There are a few ways to do this. The easiest way is to draw a text box on
your slide from the Control toolbox (View > Toolbars > Control Toolbox). On a
Windows computer, this something that you can type in right on the screen.

Another thing you can do is demonstrated in Example 6.7 on my site:

Go to "Examples by Chapter" and click on Chapter 6 to find it.

Use extended desktop (multi monitor) and send the slide show to the 2nd
display.
Sometimes PPT will auto detect and send without having to change anything.
Now, in slide show, you will see the show on display 2 and your regular PPT
window on the primary display. Just click on the primary display and start
editing
while in show. This works with existing text boxes/placeholders. If you
add a new
text box it will not show until you restart the slide show. While in show
you can
copy and paste and existing text box to add a new box. All the audience
sees is the
change. I use this all of the time and it works great.

Hi Guys,

I just tried mentioned example and it didn't work for me neither in preview
nor in runtime mode :-(

A few things that could have gone wrong (I think they're all mentinoed at
the top of the page):

(1) The file is zipped. Although Windows XP lets you run things directly
from a zipped folder, the example won't work unless you extract it first
(just drag it to your desktop).

(2) The file contains macros. Thus, your macro security must be set to
medium or low for it to work (Tools > Options > Security > Macro
Security). I would set it to medium and then try running the file again.
It should ask you if you want to enable macros. You must choose to enable
macros.

(3) This is made to run in Slide Show View. If you want to type in
Edit/Normal View, you don't need anything special, so you must run it in
Slide Show View.

If these things don't help, let me know what you are seeing (be more
specific than "it doesn't work").

Lynx,

I'm glad I could help you out here. As far as the "pausing" thread,
you're in good hands with Sonia and Chirag. I think they know more about
that problem than I do (or at least have a better chance of tracking it
down).
