Two networks attached to same switch

Hi,

We're setting up a new W2K3 network that will have a new IP subnet --
10.17.x.x. Our existing network uses 10.1.x.x. Both networks are connected
to the same HP switch. In both networks, we have DHCP server. What can we do
so that clients of the existing network don't grab their IPs from the DHCP
server of the new network?

We have to connect them to the same switch because they're both going to be
using the same Cisco router and outside IPs to connect to the Internet. Both
networks have their own firewalls.

Thanks,

Sam

The only way to solve the problem will be to use routers to break the ranges
up, or give up on DHCP and force addresses for one address or the other. As
long as both address ranges see only one router and default gateway they'll
get addresses in only one range.

Hi Sam.

I don't have any experience with fancy switches unfortuneatley but look into if it
supports vlans which I understand uses ports to isolate the networks into broadcast
domains on the same switch which may help your situation. Hopefully someone else can
supply more specific info. --- Steve
