Two monitors - two applications - one problem

Scenario:

Our company gift store has one computer, with two monitors. One is the
desktop display, on which we do the Point of Sales sytems (Quickbooks) for
sales of merchandise. The second monitor is a 32" flatscreen monitor hanging
on the wall. On this monitor we have a Powerpoint presentation scrolling
showing where the proceeds of merchandise sold is contributed, employee
announcements. etc.

Problem: Whenever I click on ANYTHING on the first monitor, the powerpoint
presentation on the second monitor freezes. once I exit the point of sale
system, I have to do a "resume show" on the 2nd monitor.

This defeats the purpose of having the powerpoint slide show running, as it
is generally frozen during the entire time the store is open (employee
lunches) since the main monitor is being used for sales.

My IT dept. tells me there is no way around this except to purchase an
additional PC for the second monitor (which they will not do).

Anyone have suggestion?

Thanks.
