Two local subnets for Vista filesharing

I have a vista and win2k computer on two separate subnets transparently
routed to each other. I can access a share on the 2k computer by entering a
user name and password in the dialog box on Vista, but it will not reconnect
on start up. I solved this problem accessing the 2k share from XP by adding
both subnets to the "scope" boxes for file sharing in the XP firewall
properties. Is there a way for doing a comparable thing with Vista so it
will find the win2k share on start up?
Many thanks,

Sorry I forgot to mention this is Vista Home Basic, but I'm prepared to
upgrade if necessary.
